MCA-Mozambique Launches Tender for the Construction of the New Licungo River Bridge and Mocuba Bypass Road
Millennium Challenge Account – Mozambique (MCA-Mozambique) officially launched, on 7 May 2026, the tender for the construction of the new Licungo River Bridge and the Mocuba Bypass Road, in Zambezia Province, under the Connectivity and Rural Transport Project (CTR), which is part of Compact II.
The infrastructure includes the construction of a 1.8-kilometre pre-stressed concrete bridge and a 17.2-kilometre bypass road, representing a total intervention of approximately 19 kilometres. The project aims to improve road connectivity and facilitate circulation between the southern and northern parts of the city of Mocuba.
During the presentation, it was highlighted that interested offerors will be required to submit a bank guarantee of USD 3 million as part of the proposal submission requirements.
Compact II, financed by the Governments of the United States of America and Mozambique, is valued at USD 537.5 million and will be implemented over a five-year period, covering three main projects, including the construction of the new bridge over the Licungo River.
As part of the project’s implementation, the resettlement of 529 families and 49 houses in Mocuba is also expected.
